Parallels

This enormous work written in turgid and flowery prose describes a young and passionate heroine's difficult journey to follow her beloved by becoming one of superior creatures - wise, beautiful, and set apart by needs and abilities beyond these of an ordinary human. These ... hell, let's call them "elves"... are secretive, and live in hiding because the ordinary people work hard to destroy them.

Early on the heroine's beloved goes away and she must do many difficult things to be reunited with him.

The heroine must also choose between a friend of her childhood and her beloved, who is a stranger and often seems hostile.

Sex between the heroine and her beloved is deeply charged with meaning.
