Given the time I feel I have to clarify that they aren't actually killed in this war. Just moved ever so slightly to the other side from mine. I can come up with half a dozen excuses for them offhand and probably more if I think, but I really don't want to.
It is, and I really appreciate your sympathy, because this is the only place I can talk about these losses (my therapist is Russian, I try not to make their life harder). Has been dispiriting since 2008, but now I'm down to the people I really cherish (ed :( ), so losing them hurts a lot. What is it like for you, in the English-language space?
I think it's way easier for us, because, though there are plenty of Trump nuts around ready to initiate violence, they don't have the law on their side. (Mostly.) Also, one can speak their mind--so there is a constant yammer of noise, and sometimes I wonder who is listening.
As for English speaking views of current events over there, the only ones I pay any attention to sympathize of course with the Ukranians, but the more long-sighted also sympathize with the Russian people. And realize that if we don't watch out, we could easily go in that direction: the authoritarians here are no smarter than anyone else (ours are stupider) and they certainly care nothing for the people, but they are willing to throw away centuries of civilization so they can be the highest monkey in the tree, throwing their poop on everyone else. One can't reason with violence.
